Health of the Lancashire Heeler
This little dog is a healthy, robust little animal, but as with any
breed of dog it is indeed prone to a small number of problems.

only covers the major problems in Lancashire Heelers, other
less common problems may occur.
Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA)
- CEA can lead to vision loss
- There is no cure for CEA
- There is a DNA test available for CEA

Primary Lens Luxation (PLL)
- PLL can be painful and may cause vision loss and/or
removal of the affected eye(s).
- Surgery and/or medication can relieve some symptoms of
PLL depending on its severity.
- Careful breeding and research of matings is a must.

Persistent Pupillary Membrane (PPM)
- PPM is believed to be an inherited failure of the pupillary
membrane to deteriorate at the proper time.
- Severely affected puppies may be blind.
- There is no medical treatment for PPM.
